After
removing both pieces of weather stripping from the front
end of the hood and taking off the sound proofing there
was only one piece left for me to take off. The hood
scoop/intercooler cover had to go. I've seen many of the
Japanese tuner cars without this piece and i didn't
think i needed it either. The removal of this allows
more air into the scoop and onto the turbo heat shield.
I understand the piece "seals" off the intercooler but
I'm going for mass air here. Plus with the addition of
more boost and downpipe back exhaust i need all the
extra air i can get to the turbo.
Tools:
Philips Screwdriver
Blade Screwdriver
Steps:
Simply unscrew the Philips head screws from the
perimeter of the scoop cover. Once you have removed the
screws there is 2 "clips" for lack of a better word,
holding the bottom in. Simply slide them out from the
slots they are in. The last fastener is on the top of
the scoop cover. It is a small pop rivet much like the
ones used to hold the inner fender wells in. Use the
blade screwdriver and philips screwdriver together to
remove this rivet. Pop it out and the cover will come
with it.
Not only will this allow much more air into the hood
scoop but the piece weight about 5 pounds so a little
extra weight off of the already heavy front end. |
