Article on: WRX Front Sway Bar
You will need:
12 socket
14 socket
17 socket
torque wrench
14 mm box wrench (or pass through socket)
allen wrench (unknown size)
go buy two 3/4"-1" hose clamps before you start
place car on jack stands
remove front wheels (may not be necessary)
remove 3 screws from plastic under tray
remove 6 pop rivets (4 on bottom 2 on sides)
remove 4 more pop rivets from small plastic cover
remove 12 bolts from u shaped subframe (helpful keep
the bolts in the order you removed them as they have the same thread pitch but
different lengths)
remove subframe ~30 lbs
loosen both nuts from both end links using open ended wrench or pass through
wrench (you may need to use the allen wrench)
remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts on the sway bar mount
remove 4 bolts from jack-up plate
remove sway bar
important
the whiteline front sway bar goes in upside down
compared to the stock bar the arm will pass under the steering rack not over it
like the stock
re-install end links (finger tight)
grease up bushings
attach bushing mounts (finger tight)
center your sway bar (the ball joints will not auto center the bar)
tighten bushing mounts to 18.1 ft-lb
install hose clamps on the in-board side of the bushings (this will prevent the
sway bar from moving,, and you from taking the whole thing apart and re-centering
the bar)
tighten end links to 33 ft-lb
replace jacking plate and bolts to 14.5 ft-lb
to replace the sub frame
install the last set of bolts before the subframe
the sub frame will slide on to the bolts
then put in the the front bolts finger tight
replace the rest of the sub frame bolts finger tight
torque the bolts in order front to back
#1 25 ft-lb
#2 41 ft-lb
#3 41 ft-lb
#4 41 ft-lb
#5 52 ft-lb
#6 52 ft-lb
replace front pop rivets and under tray
