Article on: Console Weight Savings
OK this is yet
another seemingly pointless weight reduction mods but again its free and a
needless weight. Use this method of removing the console for the Lighted Shift
Knob mod also.
TOOLS:
Dremel or grinder of some sore
(1) Philips Head Screwdriver
(1) Big Blade Screwdriver
(1) Rag so you don't scratch anything

Open the armrest section and remove the (2) screws that hold the top of the
armrest on.
Inside the storage area you just uncovered reside another (2) screws, remove
them also.
Now wrap the blade screwdriver in the rag and proceed to pop off the
e-brake/power mirror section. You will see two little slots on this section.
Once this is up proceed to pull the bottom section
off, you might hear some metal popping off, these are clips. Try
to recover these (duh!). Take this piece off and move on to the shifter boot
section. This is just like the part in the MY00-01 2.5RS. Just pull up and the
piece will pop off. Now that the (2) cover pieces are off it is time to move on
to the center console removal.
The center console is one big ass piece. There are (5) screws total
holding it in but we already took the two out (in the storage area).
The other (3) are plainly visible. Pull out the entire center console and go
outside of the car. Flip the console over and underneath the Storage are is a
big metal box. In the middle of the box you will see (2) black dots. The are the
only things holding the metal plate to the bottom of the Storage area. Just
dremel them out and remove the box and 2 foam pieces. That's good for another 4
or 5 pounds removed for free.

Put everything back in the reverse order. Nothing tricky.
