Al’s Subaru Impreza STi Spec C ECC/400

By now most of you have had the pleasure of seeing or hearing about Alan’s Blobeye Impreza STi Spec C formerly owned by HKS Japan as a demo car for HKS bolt on parts, it even featured in the coveted Rev Speed Impreza Magazine in Japan.

Despite the car coming from HKS in Japan with a healthy 300hp and more toys than a Dutch hooker, Alan wasn’t satisfied – he wanted more! After a few issues with the car, she eventually made her way to East Coast Customs who are responsible for most of the work on Alan’s car. I must say it’s really nice to see the care and attention that has been put into this car, from the dash which looks like it came straight from the factory to the rear diffuser which I challenge you to find any flaws in.

Unfortunately Alan’s partnership with his Scooby didn’t get off to the greatest start, when the car arrived from Japan it had been fitted with a turbo rated for around 320bp not the 400 Alan had been promised. This went unnoticed until Al had his car mapped for the extra horsepower he desired. The inevitable happened, about three weeks after the car being mapped up to 356hp the turbo decided enough was enough and made a swift exit. After some investigation into the spec of the turbo a new turbo was sent by HKS with a few extra toys.

Al then decided to bring her into ECC to transform her from a ‘modest’ Scooby to a fire breathing evo eater. The build started with a mountain (I’m not joking...!) of parts below to get her to the current state of build. While Alan is very pleased with her performance next summer he is planning to add a 2.7 stroker kit and a reversible turbo setup hoping to get her to around 500 hp. Further down the line an even bigger turbo will be sourced for figures north of 700bhp to 800bp.....!

For those of you who made the trek up to bishopscourt for the ultimate grudge match – Scooby V Evo you would have heard the sound that comes out of this scoob. The thrust that comes out of the exhaust would easily bring someone back from or into cardiac arrest. You really need to feel it to believe it! Throughout the day Al competed in at least 40 runs, who ever said performance cars are unreliable clearly hadn’t Al’s Scooby in mind. Every time I looked at the strip I could see her screaming down the runway leaving every evo in the start line wondering if they missed a gear. Al eventually took out the top title for fastest Scooby or Evo on the day beating a 750bp Evo in the final!

I did have the privilege of being taking out in Alan’s scoob and I can tell you this motor has no problem in laying down all her 400 horses. With launch control engaged she rockets off the line throwing u snugly into the prodrive buckets with amazing acceleration, you instantly feel the mischievous smile creeping across your face. To say the drive home in my own sti made it feel limp was an understatement, I can see a mortgage being put on hold for a while so I can create my own monster....! Dear Mr Bank Manager I have a rather large investment i...............
